My server crashed at 1AM on the dot today… So I just rebooted it and stuff was still broken. So I assumed the database was corrupted and needed to be repaired. When I ran the repair it just froze and timed out… After about 20 minutes trying to figure out why any intensive MySQL action caused mysql to freeze. I ran a df on my box… Turned out the partition that my /var/lib was on was really small (thanks 1&1 for fucking me over like that). So I moved my /var/lib to a partition that had a lot of space and put a soft symbolic link on it… and wala. Server is back up and running, and i gained some server admin experience with fiddling with raw DB files.
This was all after a wonderful night of bowling, with a good friend.
It scares the fuck out of me that I understand every single word of that.
Then again it’s good; because my databases exam is in 3 days.
